What is Reiki?

The meaning of Reiki (ray-key)

Reiki is referred to as a ‘spirtually guided life force energy’

Reiki is a Japanese technique, for stress reduction & relaxation

It is an active, subtle and effective form of energy healing, using spiritually guided life force energy. 


Reiki is a natural method of self-improvement, a spiritual healing that is safe and with no side effects, simple, and anyone can utilize its benefits. 


Understanding that the body has the ability to heal itself, complete relaxation is often beneficial to meet this goal. 


There must be a commitment to a healing process by the client, and be willing to change in a positive way to receive full benefits of a Reiki treatment.


In a typical Reiki session, energy is channeled by the practitioner, through the gentle touch of the hands, on or above the body of the receiver, a practice referred to as ‘Laying on of Hands’. 


Because these energies are channeled, one cannot predict the actual healing process.


Reiki can complement every malady & illness, medical protocol, therapeutic, and medical technique.

What Reiki is not

What is a Reiki Session?

What to expect in a Reiki Session

  • Though Reiki can be channeled quickly on the fly, it is more typical that a Reiki session take approximately 45 minutes to 1.5 hours.
  • A Reiki session can be performed with a person sitting in a chair, a recliner, edge of a bed, or on the floor, but more commonly a Reiki session is completed on a massage table with an individual fully clothed, laying on their back.  
  • In a respectful environment, the practitioner will begin the session using a therapeutic touch, often referred to as the ‘laying-on-of-hands’, an ancient healing technique, utilizing various hand positions, on or above the client. In doing so, the Reiki, a warm and subtle energy, flows from the practitioners hands through the client’s bio-energy field. 
  • As the practitioner, may use up to 15 standard hand positions, the first 4 on the face and head, first covering the eyes, side of the cheeks, top of the head (the crown Position) and then cradle the back of the head with both hands. Then positions are applied down the trunk of the body and then to the knees, ankles, and the feet. The practitioner will most likely hold each position 5 minutes or longer as guided. At some point the receiver will be asked to roll over so the practitioner can work on specific areas on the back as needed. 
  • Because this Reiki energy is channeled, one cannot predict the outcome. Therefore in a session, a person can experience many sensations, like a tingling, or warming sensations or incredible relaxation. One might see colors or have emotional responses. 
  • The healing that takes place during a session, can allow harmony to come back in the body as a Reiki session targets the body on every level: emotional, mental, spiritual and physical. As such, one might expect to have a sense of wellbeing, security, spirituality and peace creating a pleasant experience.

   This popular form of meditation is unique, in that the practitioner sets the intention for the mediation, then quietly guides the meditation into the experience, and then lets go of talking to allow the user to enter their own unique experience.  After a specified time the practitioner brings the meditation to a close, giving time for reflection

Guided Imagery

   Guided Imagery is a form of meditation where one would be listening to a specific recording, chosen for a given health issue. The user is guided with a deliberate form of daydreaming. This experience is usually enhanced by soothing music and a relaxed pacing of a voice. The process basically encourages a person to use their imagination with all of their senses to alleviate symptoms of a condition they are dealing with. It is an evidence-based process targeting specific mental & health challenges. The user can expect astonishing results.
